How to make your website visable, justhost web hosting
After you have created your JustHost account, you will be sent a user account and password, don’t forget them and keep them safe. If you forget them, I am sure you will become so incredibly frustrated that you might even through stuff!
At this point, you wont be able to see anything if you type in your web address into the address bar. Don’t worry, you wouldn’t have one yet because you don’t have a public html yet. One of the most commonly used publishing platform is wordpress.org (not to be confused with wordpress.com) so unless you know how to create a whole website using notepad to create CSS, PHP and HTML encoding, then you should choose wordpress.
Follow these steps:
- log into your justhost account with the user name and password they emailed to you to access the cPanel X (they probably sent you a temporary cPanel link, use it. It will change on it’s own so don’t worry about it.
- The site will walk you through the set up of your cPanel account. After you are done with that…
- scroll down to the box that says ‘popular choices’
- select ‘wordpress’ select ‘new install’ (the tab will read cp fantastico, don’t worry about, you are still in the right place)
- select the domain name to install on. At this point there is probably only 1 so that would be the one.
- leave the ‘install in directory’ blank. If you put something there then your website address will read www.yourdomain/whateveryouputinthatbox.com/ you don’t want that so leave it blank.
- create a new (not the same as you used for your justhost account) user name and password for wordpress
you don’t have to put in a nickname if you don’t want - put in the name of your site, it doesn’t have to be your domain name if you don’t want
- put in your email address. JustHost would have issued you a default email address change it to your email address if you want
- you don’t need a description but if you want one, go ahead put it in!
- select ‘install wordpress’
After it is done installing it will tell you where it was installed which would be your root folder. Don’t touch it! Well, don’t delete anything anyways…
There will be a link that connects you to your wordpress admin account which is the administrative side of your website, click on it. Be sure to bookmark it too just to make life a little simpler. If you haven’t upgraded to FireFox yet I suggest you do it because IE is becoming obsolete so what you see in IE (Internet Explorer) will not be the same as what you will see in FireFox plus some features that are available with FireFox will not be available in IE. Got it? Good.
Now, after you have clicked on the link it will bring you to your website which will be the default template for wordpress. It’s blue and not too flattering. You will see something that says ‘meta’ under that it will say ’site admin’. Click on ’site admin’ and you will be in wordpress dashboard where you will do most of all your work.
Congratulations! You have just created your first website. Now you need to know how to upload a wordpress theme.
